Top Nutrients For Strong Bones: More Than Just Calcium!

Top Nutrients For Strong Bones: More Than Just Calcium!

Dr. Angela Stengler: Hi, I'm Dr. Angela Stengler, here with Dr. Mark Stengler, and it is time for our One Minute Clinical Insight segment. Right now we're going to be talking about bone health and nutrients.

Dr. Stengler: Yes. A lot of people think that calcium is a magic nutrient to building bone, and it is certainly very important. However, when you look at studies, most show that taking calcium supplements only slows bone loss. A lot of people have osteoporosis — their bones are becoming porous and breaking down — so we need to do better than that. With our patients, we make sure they're getting a variety of different types of nutrients shown in research to build bone density.

Dr. Angela Stengler: Some of those minerals and vitamins include, obviously, calcium, magnesium, potassium, and vitamin D3 with K2. There are some good studies on probiotics, and something called resveratrol — very interesting information on that with bone health. We do recommend no caffeine, minimal alcohol, as well as weight-bearing exercise.

When it comes to bone health, calcium gets all the attention—but it’s only part of the story. Bones are living tissue that require a network of nutrients and mechanical stimulation to stay strong, resilient, and fracture-resistant over time.

In this video, Dr. Mark and Dr. Angela Stengler break down the often-overlooked nutrients essential for bone health, including magnesium, potassium, vitamin D3 paired with K2, and resveratrol. They explain how these nutrients work together to support bone density, proper calcium placement, and reduced bone loss.

You’ll also learn practical, real-world strategies for protecting your bones—such as the importance of weight-bearing exercise, minimizing excess caffeine and alcohol, and addressing nutrient deficiencies before they turn into osteoporosis.

If you’re concerned about bone loss, osteoporosis, or simply want to protect your skeletal health as you age, this video offers clear, actionable guidance rooted in integrative medicine and long-term prevention.
