Dr. Stengler: Are you struggling with allergy symptoms or hay fever — sneezing, watery eyes, coughing, runny nose, all those aggravating symptoms? In this video, I'm going to cover the number one dietary supplement to use to relieve your allergies.
I'm Dr. Mark Stengler, and I've been practicing functional naturopathic medicine for over 30 years. I've treated many patients with allergies — both hay fever and year-round environmental allergies — and people often ask me: what is the best supplement? Based on treating thousands of patients, as well as the published research, I've found the number one supplement to be quercetin.
Quercetin is a unique natural agent found in foods — grapes, wine, onions, apples, and other sources — but in very small amounts. Here's the problem: when you take quercetin as a standard supplement, it has very poor absorption. So sometimes people take quercetin for allergies and don't notice great benefits. However, if you give a patient the right dose at the right concentration, you see extraordinary benefits — and that's what I see with patients.
We use a form of quercetin used in published studies called quercetin phytosome. Different brands carry it, as do we. The unique thing about quercetin phytosome is that you get up to 20 times the blood level compared to regular quercetin. When you have good amounts of quercetin in the bloodstream, it acts as a natural antihistamine — it works on the mast cells that release histamine and produce allergy symptoms. It also has other effects in regulating and balancing the immune system.
In one published study, just 200 milligrams a day of quercetin phytosome was effective in reducing hay fever symptoms. Other studies used higher amounts. I typically use 250 to 500 milligrams a day with patients, and in some cases a little higher. The great thing about quercetin is that it's very non-toxic, so you can take it throughout the allergy season — or year-round if your allergies are persistent — at least twice a day to maintain a good blood level.
For some patients, I'll add other ingredients for additional benefit: nettle leaf, bromelain, eyebright for eye symptoms, and NAC — N-acetyl cysteine — which helps thin mucous secretions. These natural supplements work very well together. I advise taking them at the onset of your allergy season, or if you have year-round allergies, you can use them long-term safely and without toxicity.
I hope you found that helpful. For more information on allergies or nutritional approaches to health, visit my website at markstengler.com.
Allergy season doesn’t have to mean suffering. In this expert video, Dr. Mark Stengler, Naturopathic Medical Doctor and integrative medicine leader, reveals the top natural supplement that’s been proven to help relieve seasonal and year-round allergy symptoms—quercetin.
Dr. Stengler explains why standard quercetin supplements often fail to deliver results—and how a clinically proven form called Quercetin Phytosome (Quercetin Phytosome®) is absorbed up to 20x better, giving your body real relief from sneezing, watery eyes, and sinus pressure.
Quercetin helps stabilize mast cells, which reduces histamine release—the main culprit behind itchy eyes, sneezing, and congestion. Combined with other natural ingredients, it offers a non-toxic and long-term solution for those who want to avoid pharmaceutical side effects.
Take 250–500 mg of Quercetin Phytosome daily, ideally twice a day, at the start of allergy season or year-round for chronic allergy support. Pair with other natural ingredients for added relief.
