Did you know that American bread can be as detrimental to your health as simple sugar? You see refined bread products in America act like simple sugar in the body. And we know that insulin resistance is epidemic in America with insulin resistance as your blood sugar levels rise. So does the hormone insulin, because its job is to transport that blood sugar or glucose into your cells. And when insulin is spiking over time, it leads to weight gain, it leads to high cholesterol, it leads to inflammation, it leads to suppression of the immune system. And this is why American breads are so problematic. Did you know that the average American whole wheat bread products have a Higher Glycemic Index rating more than soda pop? And of course white bread is worse. So the average American consumes 82 grams, or about 20 teaspoons of sugar daily. And we should be getting about 25 grams or less and this has pronounced effects on weight gain, on diabetes, on inflammation, joint pain, just degeneration of the body. So I advise my patients to really restrict their use of lot of wheat products. Especially the breads and the pasta's. So focus on grains which still have a lot of fiber still have their protein in them, things like brown rice or quinoa. And your health will be a lot better for it.
